Last updated: 24 October 2026

1. Who we are

Solo Travel Tours and Car Hire (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a South African tour operator that plans and operates curated African safaris, guided journeys and vehicle hire. We are the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy.

Questions about this policy or your personal information can be sent to info@solotraveltours.co.za.

2. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to respond to your enquiry and deliver your journey:

  • Identity and contact details — name, email address, phone number and country of residence.
  • Trip details — travel dates, number of travellers, accommodation preference, add-ons and special requests.
  • Account information — a securely hashed password if you create an account with us.
  • Booking and payment records — quotes, invoices, receipts and payment references.
  • Technical data — limited log data needed to keep the site secure and working.

3. How we use your information

  • To prepare and send quotes, estimates, invoices and booking confirmations.
  • To arrange and operate your safari, transfers and car hire with our vetted partners.
  • To communicate with you about your enquiry, booking or account.
  • To meet our legal, accounting and tax obligations (including SARS and UIF requirements).
  • To improve our services and, where you have opted in, to share offers you may find useful.

4. Lawful basis and POPIA

We process your personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”). Depending on the activity, our lawful basis is the performance of our agreement with you, your consent, our legitimate business interests, or compliance with a legal obligation.

5. Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with parties who help us deliver your journey, such as safari lodges, transfer operators, car-hire suppliers, payment processors and our email service provider, and only to the extent necessary. These parties are required to protect your information.

6. Cross-border transfers

Some of our partners and service providers may process information outside South Africa. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information receives a comparable level of protection.

7. How long we keep your information

We keep booking, estimate and financial records for as long as needed to operate your journey and to satisfy our legal and tax record-keeping obligations, after which we securely delete or anonymise them.

8. Your rights

Subject to POPIA, you have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction or deletion of information that is inaccurate or no longer needed.
  • Object to processing or withdraw consent where consent is our basis.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.

To exercise these rights, email info@solotraveltours.co.za.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections, hashed passwords and controlled access to our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to keep your data safe.

10. Cookies

We use only the cookies and local storage needed to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. We do not use them to sell your data to third parties.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available on this page with the “last updated” date shown above.
